Join our team at Exceptional Care & Training Center, a private, non-profit organization, located in Sterling, Illinois. ECTC provides compassionate care for persons who are medically complex and have severe/profound intellectual disabilities (MC/DD). We offer residential and day training services.


We are hiring and currently have a Direct Support Professional (DSP) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) opening.




Direct Support Professional (DSP) position is responsible for providing direct support, positive direction, and assistance to individuals in accordance with program policies and procedures; and personal outcome measures. We offer paid DSP training.


The DSP will provide direct care to persons with medically complex and intellectual disabilities. This care includes but is not limited to:

  • Provides daily direct care and support to clients at the level identified in his/her individualized care and/or educational plan. This includes but is not limited to: bathing, dressing and grooming; food consumption; transferring and ambulating. Provision of care also includes: providing comfort to clients by creating a positive home-like environment; helping the clients develop trust; offering emotional support; assisting with daily routines, working with clients’ families; and communicating and actively listening.
  • Monitors and reports to Charge Nurse and/or case management change in client physical condition, changes and/or problems in training programs and other relevant matter(s).
  • Provides for the clients’ health needs, including but not limited to: determining measurements accurately as assigned (vital signs, intake, output and food consumption, etc.); ensuring proper documentation is maintained; assisting the nurses during treatments, medical procedures and emergencies; recording accurate, legible information about client care and condition per facility practices; and responding to any call light or emergency alarm timely.
  • Provides supports and active treatment to clients by assisting in the development and implementation of all Support Plans, including spiritual life supports, assisting clients in achieving their personal goals and desires, providing interaction and choices for activities that support a meaningful day, and supporting clients to be independent in activities of daily living; exercise, communication, socialization, leisure and home maintenance skills.
  • Maintains employee and client safety. Duties including but are not limited to: following infection control practices; maintaining a clean and safe environment; reporting safety problems immediately; performing procedures correctly;
  • Assists with the planning, implementation and evaluation of plans of care for assigned clients and reports information and suggested approaches to Charge Nurse and/or QIDP. HOURS
  • Full Time


Job Requirements



  • Eighth grade education or proof of equivalent knowledge required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred (required for Day Training Department)
  • Meets state and federal requirements.
  • Successful completion of a department approved Nursing Assistant (CNA), Habilitation Aide (CHA), Direct Support Person (DSP) program, or training and competency evaluation program, including passing of the certification exam. Persons enrolled in a program must successfully complete the program no later than 120 days after the date of initial employment.
  • CPR, First Aid, Driver's license per position requirements
  • Clear background checks as defined by regulations and policies.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 or more pounds. Ability to do daily standing, bending, and lifting.



A Direct Support Professional (DSP) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with ability to provide individualized, quality client care and active treatment under the direction of nursing and case management personnel. Must speak, understand and read the English language to the extent necessary to safely and properly care for clients. A DSP/CNA who recognizes dependability, accountability and team work are important. Must have excellent interpersonal skills with high level of energy and enthusiasm. Ability to organize, document, and implement detailed programs.
