Ensures maintenance of a clean and orderly facility, and supervises Environmental Services Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures maintenance of a clean and sanitary facility. Develops and follows a comprehensive cleaning program which includes but is not limited to: regularly cleaning and sanitizing furnishings, fixtures, floors; cleaning of walls, windows, doors, ceilings, entrances, exits, horizontal surfaces, curtains, drapes, and privacy curtains; washing and disposal of waste and trash; spot cleaning and disinfection as needed.
  • Ensures maintenance of clean, stocked public and private bathrooms by regularly washing and disinfecting all fixtures, floors, walls, windows and mirrors. Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Ensures emergency cleaning services are provided when necessary. Responsibilities include immediate and proper handling and cleaning of spills, slick surfaces, broken furniture or other matters possibly affecting the safety of residents, employees, and/or visitors.
  • Ensures performance of terminal cleaning duties, as directed. Prepares room for new resident.
  • Properly addresses and reports environmental services matters to Executive Director/designee. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: reporting observations concerning safety issues, structural and equipment wear, defects and malfunctioning equipment, supply and equipment needs. In an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure resident and employee safety.
  • Ensures maintenance of equipment and cleaning materials in performing duties. This includes proper use of equipment, cleaning agents, and maintaining adequate knowledge of location and use of special and emergency equipment.
  • Ensures proper documentation is maintained. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: documentation of cleaning services, safety concerns, and measures taken to address the same, as well as other documentation required per facility policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs quality assessment and assurance functions. This includes but is not limited to: auditing effectiveness of cleaning procedures, and regularly monitoring and inspecting quality of cleaning services.
  • Assists with development and update of environmental policies and procedures to reflect the philosophy of the facility, professional standards, and legal requirements.
  • Participates with Executive Director/designee in survey processes by: instructing staff regarding conduct and disclosure, reporting, being present at all times surveyors are on-site, directing prompt responses to requests for information, and undertaking corrective action, if appropriate.
  • Maintains and applies current skills and knowledge through continuing education and in-service programs.
  • Carries out responsibilities in compliance with federal, state, local laws and regulations, and with facility philosophy, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from residents, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Must be able to speak, understand and read the English language to the extent necessary to safely and properly perform responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of energy and enthusiasm. Ability to organize, document, and implement detailed programs. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • This position requires standing, sitting, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds or more, bending, climbing, twisting upper body, walking, running, carrying, listening, talking, use of telephone, and exposure to medical equipment and persons with risk of illness.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises Environmental Services Assistants, and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the facility policies, practices, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must consistently use discretion and independent judgment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Meets state and federal requirements.
